This listing is for a framed art print, in etched drypoint, of Lopokova and Nijinsky in "Les Sylphides". The art is signed by Troy Kinney and is numbered 20 of 50 (though we have found evidence that there are 56 such prints, so it's possible the 0 is a 6). The piece is in excellent condition and is framed. The frame has some scratches that likely could be colored in. We date the print circa 1920, as we have found evidence that the print could have been made anywhere from 1916 - 1925.

  • Troy Kinney was an artist and etcher from Missouri. He attended the Art Institute of Chicago and well known for his illustrations in early 20th century books and periodicals as well as his numerous portrayals of dancers performing. He and his wife, Margaret Kinney, authored and illustrated numerous books about dance. 
  •  Lydia Lopokova was a Russian ballerina from St. Petersberg who attended the Imperial Ballet School in the early 1900's. Over the course of her illustrious career she performed as a ballerina across Europe and the United States and is credited with being one of the performers who made Russian ballet popular in western Europe and America. She would later transition to acting in the late 1920's after marrying John Maynard Keynes, the famed economist, and continued to act until retiring in the 1940's after the war. 
  • Vaslav Nijinsky was a Russian ballet dancer born in Kiev who is likewise given credit for expanding the popularity of the art in Western Europe and the United States. He attended the Imperial Ballet School in the early 1900's and performed across Europe, the US, and South America. His career was far shorter at only around 10 years, but he is nonetheless remembered as one of the best male ballet dancers of the era.
